It acquired the status of a Degree College in July 1959 in affiliation to Gorakhpur University. It was recognized as Inter College in 1916. The college was originally founded as an English Missionary School in 1841 by Late Priya Nath Ghose.
Most of its alumni are representing it in different fields not only in the country. It is known for its innovative methods of teaching and the quality of its research work. There are upwards of 3 thousands students in this college. Many of them have contributed articles and research papers to national and international journals. About 20% of them are engaged in research work in various departments. Raja Sri Krishna Dutt Degree College, Jaunpur is one of the premier institutions of Uttar Pradesh. Purvanchal University, Jaunpur (UP) and Recognized by National Council for Teacher Education has been founded with motto to provide higher education to boys and girls of Jaunpur District.
